Project Overview

As a result of EU ageing population, a great deal of elderly people feels socially excluded and undesired by the society where they live. This is a great source of suffering, as well as a challenge both to their body and mind health.
Using food as a relevant topic, this two year project (August 2011/July2014) aims to improve the quality of the elderly people’s life by giving them the competencies for maintaining their health and regaining their status in society. The topic was chosen because it opens wide opportunities for possible activities and has a power to gather people despite their age, nationality or social status.
The objectives of the project are to promote healthy ageing, to provide learning opportunities for the elderly, to motivate them for self-realization, to restore European values of solidarity between generations, and to promote the idea of diversity as a source for a better life in communities.
To achieve these objectives we will take an approach based on collaborative work, informal learning, and practical activities.
People at risk of social exclusion (women, migrants, disabled, and those living in rural areas) will be included with emphasis on the elderly.
As a result of the project the Manual “Food for Body, Mind and Spirit” (virtual and printed recipe book) will be created as a resource of helpful information, and blogs will be developed as a space for sharing ideas and for intergenerational learning.
